[KIT] How to turn procrastination into productivity

Most people are struggling to manage their time throughout the day and just got works pile up and never-ending. This happens because you lack the passion to complete the work, and you’re procrastinating. Always thinking and saying later, next time, I’ll do it tomorrow, the deadline isn’t near, these are the common phrases that procrastinators mostly use. But, if you know how to manage your time, and you can do it professionally, you’ll be able to catch up on works and clear all the pending projects and assignments.

First off, in order to turn procrastination into productivity, you have to know how to do TIME MANAGEMENT. But what is the importance of this?

  • Improve the quality of your works: when you effectively divide your time or works, you can put more effort and think about it. For example, let say you are completing your work at the last minute, surely you will just rush and get it done on time without review or edit it. But if you were to start early and divide the works up over time, you will have enough time to outline, research, and checking it multiple times and it will do better in terms of grades and feedback.
  • Reduce stress: when you procrastinate and put up work for the last minute, you will get anxious, not knowing where to start and what to do and you will continue to put pressure on yourself.
  • Increase productivity: when you are not constantly rushing to finish work, you can get more done in less time. Essentially what you are doing here is controlling the time you have and use it effectively.

Now that we are aware of its importance, how can we manage our time effectively? Here are some tips that you should take note of:

  • Schedule your day: blocking occupied time slot and start or end your day with important or purposeful tasks that give you the motivation to continue doing well throughout the day. However, do not forget to block social time which is the time that you’ll be spending with your friends, or if you live far away from your parents, this is the time when you will call and check upon them.

  • Break a large project into small, doable tasks: let say you have to write an article with 10000 words, you will likely procrastinate because it looks like a huge assignment. But if you break it down into a smaller task that you can do daily, writing 200 words per day, that will help you to finish on time, with no pressure.
  • Take breaks at the right time: make sure that you give your brain enough time in between works, preferably after every 90 minutes. Step away from where you are working or studying, walk for 5 to 10 minutes. High protein snacks are also a good way to give you a longer energy boost so it helps you to do your work without feeling tired.

  • Focus on a single task at a time: this will help you to give undivided attention to what you are doing and able to complete it faster.

Make sure you have a clear and direct schedule and follow it consistently. Also, if you keep doing this, you will be able to see progress and also help yourself to work on your assignments, projects or works faster and well done.
