Ad:Tech ASEAN – Maximizing the value of my (free) visitor badge

Hi! This is Takashi at Web Analytics Consultants Association Singapore.

On July 7th, I went to ad:tech asean held at Suntech City Convention Center. This time I went with the free visitor badge but was pleasantly surprised with the amount of marketing research I was able to do.

So today I want to share those takeaways with you!

About the overview of this event, So today I want to share those takeaways with you!(*About the review of ad:tech asean 2015, you can read Adrian’s Article. He attended this event last year.)

“ad:tech Asean is a two day conference and exhibition designed to appeal to smart marketers from across the media and advertising community. (http://www.adtechasean.com/)”

Utilizing my free badge!

Conferences like this one usually charge money but luckily at:tech has free access called “Visitor Pass”. The pass allowed me to attend with full access to exhibitions, key notes, and the “clinic” where you receive digital marketing consultation. However it didn’t cover access to parties or presentation notes by the guest speakers.

Oh well!

AdVantage SEO

AdVantage SEO provides comprehensive marketing consulting. I had a delightful conversation with a web consultant. Both of us agreed that what we do is not website tool optimization but business optimization. SEO or AdWords is just a means to achieve that goal. They are also providing services in China.

Rakuten Marketing

I’ve always felt that Rakuten is marketplace. However, Rakuten Marketing is doing something different these days.

The focus of Rakuten Marketing is to provide “Rakuten Display” which enables us to understand the user engagement since it can analyse not only clicks but also mouse over on display ads. Understanding user engagement is more important than increasing conversions because we need to keep listening to the hidden user voice to understand their needs in order to keep getting new customers.

MIS (Marketing Institute of Singapore)

This school is very close to the Singapore government and they have a very comprehensive marketing education program. They also hold communities for marketing people in Singapore.

SiTF (Singapore infocomm Technology Federation)

SiTF is supporting hundreds of IT companies in Singapore. They are organizing a community for IT companies and providing co-working spaces. I may have Google Analytics Study Group for them and together, analyse members’ website to create actionable plans! Their co-working space is quite reasonable.

Digital + Direct Marketing Association Asia

“1/3 of twitter uses are in ASEAN in world”.

Quite the opening line I heard from a representative from them.

It was interesting because as you probably know, people in China use WeiBo and not twitter because of the “Great Fire Wall”. While data we gain from web analytics tools is important, some macro data can give us great insight some times.

If you want to learn more about what they have to say, I will share their leaflet about Asia Pacific Digital analytics book data*.

*According to her, this book will be disclosed on the week of 13th July. If you cannot download it, kindly wait till it has been published.

It was really meaningful time for me at ad:tech asean. I atually decided to attend this event the day before the event so this was a great turn of events. I found at least 3 organizations that we connected with so hopefully we will get a chance to work together soon.

There were some key findings that I took away from this event:

– We need to create better environment to “use” digital analytics in Asia.

– Tools alone cannot help businesses

– Without listening to guest speaker talks, we can still find good opportunities in a conference 🙂
