[Report] WACA Course & Events Tour in Cebu (Jul 2019)

cebu-ayala

WACA has been doing trainings in all around Asia. One of the region that WACA expanded its training is South East Asia. This time, I, Desman Hidayat, joined the WACA training a the trainer in Cebu, Phillipines.

Cebu is a beautiful city. It is around two hours flight from Manila. When I travelled from the airport to the hotel, I saw that Cebu looks a little similar with Jakarta, my hometown. One of the things that I noticed was how hot Cebu is. The taxi driver said that normally the weather is Cebu can be around 38-39 degrees Celcius.

The WACA team stayed in Seda Hotel Ayala Center Cebu. It is a very strategic hotel, since it is located just right beside the Ayala Center, the most famous mall in Cebu. The owner of both the hotel and the mall is the same person, so that is why both the buildings can be very close to each other.
Since I missed my connecting flight, I couldn’t join the lunch meeting with the WACA team. I roamed around the Ayala Center. This is a modern mall that looks like a typical Jakarta’s mall. It was quite crowded and people can easily find famous brand stores here.

I finally joined with the WACA team for the dinner. We ate in a traditional Japanese restaurant that owned by a Japanese. It had this unique Japanese atmosphere that differentiated it from other restaurant.

The way Japanese did their networking is also unique. Dinner is not only about eating and drinking when we do it Japanese style. Dinner is about getting to know each others, getting new friends, and sharing stories. What seems to be a simple dinner changed into a nice networking session with a lot of new friends.

A Happy Dinner

On 27th July 2019, we went to the IT Park in Cebu. It is still a new developing area. A lot of company, local and international, opened up their business in IT Park, including Japanese company. Our WACA training today will be held in one of the co-working space located here.
The training was divided into 2 parts. There were WACA training in Japanese and also WACA training in English. Both were held in different rooms with different participants. I was the trainer for the English WACA training.

After the WACA training, we still have sharing sessions from several Japanese expert, talking about their experience. I couldn’t understand Japanese but I can see that all the people there seems to be inspired by the sharing session. The session was moderated by Toshiaki Ejiri, founder and chief director of WACA.

28th July 2019 was my last day in Cebu. We had an island hopping to Caohagan Island near Cebu. It was around 45 minutes to reach that island from the small port. The trip included snorkeling and lunch in the island. The weather was good although it was a little cloudy and the sea was nice. Some of us were even lucky enough to see dolphins from the boat.

After the island tour, we parted our way since some of us went back to our country. Since there was no direct flight to Jakarta, then I had to take the flight to Manila first before the flight to Jakarta. So, this is the end of the story, and I will be waiting for the next story with WACA. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
